Lucy lives with a foster family, who eventually give Lucy back to Sam. They don't believe they can guarantee to give Lucy the love she has never experienced. They agree to stand by Sam in court and promise to not tell Sam that they can't care for her. They win the argument, and Sam and Lucy are reunited. Main Character Description Sam is a father with a mental disability who loves his daughter deeply. He is very kind, caring, and happy to help Ihop. He also enjoys making paper cranes, and other shapes.
He started his career at Starbucks and quit to work at Pizza Hut. Sam is known for his anger issues. He lashes out at Lucy when she says they don't serve French pancakes with fruit toppings. Lucy: She's a smart, sneaky young girl. Despite not being normal, she loves her dad unconditionally and wants him to visit as often as possible. She also shows a great deal of love and understanding for her dad.
Rita: Rita acts as Sam's lawyer in order to get Lucy back. She leads a stressful life, with people she doesn't like and hundreds of tasks to complete. Then she has to deal the case she created. She is a winner and never loses so she works hard to win this case. As she assists Sam in getting Lucy back, she becomes more caring and understanding. This movie features Sam, a man with psychological illness autism who struggles to keep Lucy with him.
Lucy's friend questions her at the beginning: "What is wrong? Is he mentally retarded? He replies "Yes." Sam isn't "normal" and her friend judged him very harshly. Sam attempts to calm everyone down on Lucy's birthday party so that they can surprise Lucy. He touches one child to hide, and the child responds, "Get off me!" I have cooties! Because of his personality, the child doesn't want to be touched or handled.
Lucy sees this and the father pushes him away from his child. Because he is always there for her, and will always love her like none other, she loves her father regardless of what. His peers would laugh at him and look at him as if he were a strangeo. He would speak to people and they would nod their heads as if they didn't care about what he had to say. Sam is fortunate to have some friends who are just like him and enjoy hanging out like regular friends.
They would complement each other greatly, support one another, and share their common interests. Because Sam isn't capable of supporting Lucy, the court officials decided it was best that Lucy not live with Sam. They don't believe he would be capable of taking care of her properly, especially since he has a mental disorder. He pointed out that she only needs his love, support and patience.
